The UK's FTSE 100 is expected to rise 16 points to 8,355, Germany's DAX is expected to start flat at 18,790, France's CAC is expected to fall 9 points to 7,577, and Italy's FTSE MIB is expected to rise 13 points to 33,999.
The pan-European Stoxx 600 index ended higher on Wednesday.
European data is due to include preliminary inflation figures for August from Spain and Germany, as well as insights into the euro zone's economic situation.
