Strikes, in which employees refuse to work in order to demand better wages and working conditions, are common in Europe.
Strikes are sometimes planned months in advance but sometimes announced at the last minute, which means it's always worth checking before you travel.

Germany: Airlines Discover employees vote for unlimited strike action
Discover Airlines pilots and flight attendants voted in favor of striking in two separate ballots.
Workers plan to strike if the airline, a subsidiary of Lufthansa, does not meet their demands on wages and working conditions.
This means there could be unlimited strikes on Discover Airlines flights.
The airline has a fleet of 27 aircraft and operates routes from its bases in Frankfurt and Munich to destinations across Europe and abroad.
Italy: No strikes allowed during peak summer season
Italy's transport sector is barred from striking between July 27 and September 5, when most Italians are on holiday, so disruptions are unlikely in midsummer.
Alicante Airport: security guards on strike
The strike by security guards at Alicante-Elche airport in Spain has been extended.
The strike was originally scheduled for five days from August 1st to 4th, but has now been extended to include additional dates on August 15th, 16th, 17th, 18th, 30th and 31st.
Airports serving the Costa Blanca will be affected from 8:30am to 9:30am and from 6pm to 7pm local time.
Jet2, a British travel company that uses the airport to organise holiday packages, posted on its website that the strike was in support of airport security and would affect congestion at security checkpoints. The company advised passengers to allow plenty of time to arrive at the airport.
However, airport operator Aena said there were no major delays yet to operations at Alicante airport.

Scottish trains affected by strikes
If the proposed strike goes ahead, trains in Scotland could be delayed or cancelled.
ScotRail's 1,300 drivers are due to vote to decide whether to strike or take other action as they are in a dispute with trade union Aslef over pay.
ScotRail operates trains between major tourist destinations such as Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen and Inverness.
Dates for the strike have yet to be announced, but it could affect the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August.

France: Motorway strikes hit summer holidays
Workers at the Motorways South of France (ASF) and Vinci motorways have launched their summer strike in protest at reduced employee numbers.
The weekend strike earlier this month hit holidaymakers heading out on their first trips of the summer holidays.
It is not yet clear whether further strike action will take place in the coming weeks.
Paris airport workers call off July strike
Paris airports are under threat of strike action ahead of the Olympics, with unions calling for a strike on July 17th, just 10 days before the games begin.

But the strike was called off at the last minute on Tuesday after workers reached an agreement on wages and had wanted a bonus given to some employees to be extended to everyone.
Flights at both Roissy-Charles de Gaulle and Orly airports currently operate as normal.
Could there be strikes at the Paris Olympics?
CGT-RATP members have announced a seven-month strike warning, from February 5 to September 9, which could affect the Île-de-France bus and metro networks, including during the Olympics this summer.
But on April 9, the French Senate passed a bill that would allow the country to ban transport strikes for a period each year to avoid disruptions during major events like Paris 2024. The bill also calls for greater advance warning of strikes and tougher minimum service obligations.

The bill faces opposition and must be adopted by the French National Assembly before it can become law.
Workers at the state-run public transport company say they are striking over wages.
Netherlands: Public transport strikes planned for September
Public transport strikes have been announced in major Dutch cities for September 12, with further strikes possible.
The announcement comes ahead of the Cabinet's Budget, which Labour hopes will include plans to allow people in physically demanding jobs to retire earlier.

Services in Amsterdam, The Hague and Rotterdam will be affected.
