The Atlanta Flamenco Festival will bring world-class artists to Atlanta from Aug. 26-31 to promote the art form of flamenco with a series of concerts and educational programs.
Two public concerts of live music and dance will be held at the Emory University Performing Arts Studio on August 31st at 3pm and 8pm.
Macarena de Jerez, an accomplished “festella” from Jerez de la Frontera, Spain, will headline the concert on August 31. Typically a male role in flamenco, the festella or festella is a powerful character who expresses emotion through song and dance, often with humor. In this concert, Macarena de Jerez will showcase her powerful singing voice and her imposing dancing. Accompanying her will be guitarist and singer José Panzequito, who comes from one of Spain's oldest flamenco families.
These versatile artists will be joined on stage by El Bocadillo, a young and passionate dancer from Madrid, and José Manuel Alcónchel, an accomplished guitarist from Jerez de la Frontera, Spain.
The touring artists will also provide an education program: local artists will have access to professional-level development seminars, culminating in a concert with a showcase of Georgian artists.
Tickets are $40 and can be purchased at www.atravesarts.com.
