VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A Port Orange man arrested Thursday has been charged with possession of AI-generated child pornography, according to police.
James Lenhar, 68, faces 21 charges of possession of child pornography under state law, which was updated July 1 by SB 1680, the Port Orange Police Department announced on social media.
The new law makes it a crime to knowingly possess, control, knowingly view or “produce” child pornography, according to a Florida legislative summary. Each violation of the law constitutes a separate crime and can be punished by up to five years in prison, the summary states.
The police department said detectives from the department executed a search warrant in the 4000 block of N. Waterbridge Circle in July after receiving a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that child sexual abuse material was being transmitted from the area. Following an analysis of multiple electronic devices seized during the search, Port Orange police obtained a warrant for Lenhar's arrest on Thursday, the article reported.
Lenhart is currently being held without bail at the Volusia County Branch Jail, police said.
His arraignment is scheduled for Oct. 8, according to court records.
