EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – 14News investigative reporter Caroline Clapp investigated people's concerns about elevated radon levels detected in the basement of the old Vanderburgh County Courthouse.
Our 14 News team received several calls Thursday from people who said they worked in the Old Courthouse Catacombs and said they have health issues from their time working in the courthouse basement.

Breanna Alvey worked in the Old Courthouse Catacombs when she was 15 in 2014. She said she worked there four days a week, about seven hours each night.
She said she had been suffering from severe dizziness, difficulty standing up, and since leaving her job 10 years ago she has been suffering from health problems she never had before.
“I get really dizzy walking around,” Alvey said. “I almost pass out. I'm scared because I have a 3-year-old. I can't pass out. I shouldn't do that.”
We reached out to Phil Walter, manager of the catacombs, who said he had no idea there were radon issues in the building until he was contacted by the county commissioners on May 20.
Of course, many questions remain to be answered here, including how often the Old Courthouse was tested for radon levels.
Lecter Mansion's “Catacombs of Doom” opens on September 27th.
We will continue to follow this story as it develops.
