Lithuanian president sees the need to discuss French nuclear umbrellas
The Lithuanian president took the floor on the expansion of French nuclear umbrellas to other European countries. As he said, he does not see the need to start debate in the country. “We have a general nuclear umbrella within NATO,” Gitanas Nauseda claimed Saturday.
-I don’t think there’s any need or need to start this discussion today. Within NATO there is a general nuclear umbrella, which makes it feel completely safe – Nauseda told journalists.
The statement came after a Saturday video conference with the participation of representatives from 25 countries hosted by British Prime Minister Kiel Prefer.
French nuclear umbrella. The clear position of Lithuania
Lithuanian Defense Minister Dovil Zakalian said on Friday that discussions should begin on changes in the Lithuanian constitution to allow the distribution of nuclear weapons. Article 137 of the Lithuanian Constitution provides that there may be weapons of mass destruction in the country’s territory.

Last week, French President Emmanuel Macron proposed to open a debate over the extension of French nuclear umbrellas to its European partners.
Paris’ proposals emerged due to the threat from Russia and the changing position of the US regarding the war in Ukraine. Some European countries are also beginning to debate about the need to develop their own nuclear programs.
Polish nuclear weapons? The president took the floor
President Andrzej Duda in an interview released Thursday for the “Financial Times,” known as Washington, to distribute nuclear weapons to Poland. This is a deterrent against any possible Russian attacks. His minister soon afterwards referred to the president’s words.
