Baltimore Center Stage has announced the full cast of its upcoming world premiere of Jordan E. Cooper's “Oh Happy Day!” (a co-production with Off-Broadway's Public Theater). BCS Artistic Director Stevie Walker Webb will helm the production, reteaming Cooper with her previous work on “Ain't No Mo'” both Off-Broadway and at the Main Stem. Performances run from September 19 through October 13, with opening night on September 27.
As with Ain't No Mo', Cooper will join the cast of Oh Happy Day! as Keyshawn. Newly announced cast members include James T. Alfred as Lewis, Tamika Lawrence as Niecy, Justin Sturges as Kevin, and Latrice Pace, Courtney Monette and Tiya Askia as The Divines.
The production reimagines the biblical story of Noah's Ark as beginning at a birthday barbecue in Laurel, Mississippi, and features original music by gospel icon Donald Lawrence.
The production has musical direction by Daniel Rudin, choreography by Charlique C. Rohl, set design by Liciana Stecconi, costume design by Celeste Jennings, lighting design by Adam Honore and sound design by Taylor J. Williams. Jacob Plummer is producing stage manager and Monet Thibaud is assistant stage manager.
There are also plans for a performance at the Public in New York, but no dates have been announced at this time.
Tickets can be purchased at CenterStage.org.
