The long-term dispute between the city of Hilden in the North Rhine River Westphalia and the person paying taxes on the dogs, although he was not their owner, he ended. The administrative court in Dusseldorf, the city’s representative of the accused city of Hilden, withdrew the tax of 1,404 euros and cancelled it.
Previously, the city requested that a man who didn’t have a single dog pay “dog tax” four years ago. The man posted a photo on Facebook and had a dog belonging to his daughter, friend, friend and neighbor. However, the officials determined that the animal belonged to him.

Therefore, the city administration sent men in 2022 to a survey on two identified dogs. The office sent more letters as the answer didn’t come. In the end, the man replied by stating that he had no dogs, but the office did not accept it as the document had no valid signature.
The next step was a notification regarding the calculation of “dog tax” over 1,400 euros. The city of Hilden was not aware of the man’s objection as it failed to meet the deadline. The staff determined that the resident did not have a dog, but they requested payment from him.
The case was eventually discovered in court. On Friday, an administrative court judge ruled that notification of tax calculations was illegal. For example, officials can make home visits.

During the hearing, the judge called on the city’s defendant’s representatives to withdraw their taxes and cancel them. Men must only pay half of the lawyer’s fees.
“I’m very pleased,” said Marianus Kral, who demanded that Hilden pay the tax. He admitted that the last two and a half years were not easy for him, and he described the city’s administration’s activities as innocent.
