As part of our diversity and health equity program, in January 2020 we will be rolling out a new annual giving initiative that will enable members of our department to learn about and support community organizations that serve vulnerable populations, focus on health equity, or address social determinants of health.
First, we'll be supporting Casa de Paz with their end of year giving drive.
Casa de Paz provides support to families separated by immigration detention: shelter and meals for those recently released from the Aurora detention center, access to phones, WiFi, computers and transportation to help reunite with their families, and emotional support for those currently in the detention center.
Health impact: Casa de Paz’s work addresses one of the social determinants of health by giving immigrants a sense of belonging, supporting their mental health, and connecting them to support systems.
Items collected: Cash, Target/King Soopers gift cards, paper plates, dryer sheets, deodorant, adult underwear, adult socks, adult shoes, and more!
For a complete list and volunteer opportunities, please email [email protected].
There will be a collection box for items and envelopes for gift cards or cash in the main lobby of the Department of Family Medicine in Academic Office Building 1.
Please make all donations by Monday 30th December 2019. Tessa will arrange for all donations to be delivered to Casa de Paz at the start of the new year.
