Google has agreed to pay $ 28 million (21.55 million pounds sterling) to settle legal action which said that white and Asian employees have received better remuneration and career opportunities than workers from other ethnic circles, according to a law firm representing the applicants.
The technology giant confirmed that he had “reached a resolution” but rejected the allegations against her.
The case filed in 2021 by the former employee, Ana Cantu, said that workers from Hispanic, Latin, Amerindians and others began on wages and employment levels lower than their white and Asian counterparts.
The regulation was approved preliminary by judge Charles Adams of the Superior Court of the County of Santa Clara in California.
The case carried by Ms. CANTU against Google relied on an internal document disclosed, which would have shown that the employees of certain ethnic history declared a lower remuneration for similar work.
The practice of the basis of initial remuneration and the level of use on previous wages has strengthened the historic race and disparities based on ethnic origin, according to the lawyers of Ms. CANTU.
The collective appeal was filed at least 6,632 people employed by Google between February 15, 2018 and December 31, 2024, according to the reuters news agency.
Cathy Coble, one of the lawyers representing them, praised the “bravery of various and allies googlers who self -deprecated their salary and disclosed this data to the media”.
“The inequality of suspected remuneration is too easily concealed without this type of collective action of employees,” added Ms. Coble.
The technology giant denied having discriminated against one of its employees.
“We have reached a resolution, but continue to disagree with the allegations that we have treated whoever is different and that we remain determined to pay, hire and level all employees in a fair way,” a google spokesperson for the BBC.
Earlier this year, Google joined an increasing list of American companies that abandon the commitments to the principles of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in their recruitment policies.
Meta, Amazon, Pepsi, McDonald’s, Walmart and others also made their Dei programs go back.
This occurs while US President Donald Trump and his allies have regularly attacked Dei’s policies.
Since his return to the White House, Trump has ordered government agencies and their entrepreneurs to eliminate these initiatives.
