The top four from the Olympic final – Cole Hocker, Josh Kerr, Yared Nugse and Jakob Ingebrigtsen – will face off in a 1,500m rematch at the penultimate Wanda Diamond League event of the season, the Weltklasse Zurich, on September 5.
While much talk of a head-to-head battle between Ingebrigtsen and Kerr had been going around before the Games, it was American Hocker who emerged victorious in Paris, setting an Olympic and North American record of 3 minutes 27.65 seconds to become the seventh-fastest 1500m runner of all time.
Kerr followed in a British record time of 3:27.79, while Nuguse took the bronze medal ahead of Ingebrigtsen, 3:27.80 to 3:28.24.
Between them they hold four of the top nine world records, with Ingebrigtsen clocking 3 minutes 26.73 seconds in Monaco in July.
Like the race in Monaco, but unlike the Olympic final, the Zurich 1500m will feature pacemakers and WaveLight technology.
Ingebrigtsen has won the Diamond League 1500 metres twice this season, in Monaco and Oslo, while Kerr won the mile in Eugene.
Mondo Duplantis is another Olympic champion hoping to do well in Zurich.
Duplantis improved his world pole vault record to 6.25 metres and will have the chance to defend his title in Paris and aim for a fourth consecutive Diamond League title in the final in Brussels.
Duplantis will be joined in Zurich by Olympic silver medallists Sam Kendricks, Chris Nilsen, Ernest John Obiena and Thibaut Collet, all of whom rank just behind Duplantis in the 2024 world rankings.
Also competing in the event will be 2012 Olympic gold medalist and former world record holder Renaud Lavillenie.
The list of athletes competing in Zurich already includes world record holders and Olympic champions Grant Holloway, Yaroslava Mahuchik and Ryan Crowther.
