LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A horse had to be euthanized after an accident at the World Championship Horse Show on Tuesday.
Kentucky State Fair officials said in a statement that the horse was injured when a bicycle struck a fence surrounding the Freedom Hall racetrack. The rider did not require medical treatment, but the horse was euthanized.
The horse is being transported to Lexington for a necropsy to determine if it sustained any injuries, authorities said.
Equestrian classes will continue as scheduled.
It's the second year in a row that tragedy has occurred at the show. A 9-year-old girl was injured at last year's fair when the horse she was riding reared up on its hind legs and fell to her death. The horse, named Nosey Rosie, became ill while waiting for the judges.
