What should be done to popularize physical education among students at school? Not so much that they avoid it out of fear, they don't like it, they have complexes, and the more they practice, the worse they feel – physically and mentally. After testing the students' abilities, a special group will be formed to change the main curriculum.
Sometimes it's hard to break away from PE. “Sometimes it happens that I stay after school to go to more physical education classes,” says Mateusz Piasecki, a student of the 5th secondary school in Wroclaw.
– Now we are in high school, so we have to dance polonaise every PE (…), but in general, PE is very good – says Alexander Skorupski, a student of the 5th secondary school in Wrocław.
But not everywhere is so good. – The world is changing, moving forward, (…) but the system of physical education lessons in primary and secondary schools has not changed at all, – says Kamil Bieganski, a swimming coach and teacher.
The physical condition of students is worse than before
– There are benefits from SI, unfortunately, there are. Obviously, someone wants to finish classes early and is exempt from the last fitness class – says Claudia Bulhak, a student at Griffis High School.
Change – making PE lessons more interesting and stimulating exercises – is needed. The results of the emergency investigation were announced at the beginning of September. The physical condition of students is worse than before.
– This is the last moment when we can stop this growing snowball, – explains prof. Bartosh Malik, rector of the Academy of Physical Education in Warsaw.
There is no school without them. “The hardest thing is probably the lack of respect from the community,” Adrianna Otreba/TVN Fact
From September next year, a new subject – health education – will appear in schools. This requires changes to the basic program of physical education.
– For a young person, a lesson in physical education should be an investment in his future like a lesson in mathematics or physics, – explains the Minister of National Education from the Civic Alliance, Barbara Novaka.
The Ministers of Education and Sports wanted to know the expectations of students regarding physical education classes. At the beginning of the week in Szczecin, they talked about this at a round table. Zuzia, a participant of the meeting and a fan of roller skating, tells us what needs to be changed.
– Other evaluation criteria. Since it is often compared with the best person, it is not a human progress, – notes Zuzanna Pietrzak, a student of the 1st secondary school in Szczecin.
Such voices should be useful for teachers and experts who are developing new professional education curriculum. Monika Pirek will join the team.
The gym teacher polled the students and got their opinions
Kamil Bieganski, a swimming teacher and coach with many years of experience, without waiting for systemic changes and wanting to propose something to the authorities, conducted an anonymous survey for two months. He asked secondary school students in Szczecinek if they would like to choose physical activities during physical education classes. The absolute majority answered “yes”. He sent the applications to Minister Novaka.
– In grades one to three, there is also a gym teacher who conducts general development classes. In grades 4-8, young people should learn the main types of sports and activities. In high school, let him (student – editor's note) choose, – says Kamil Biegansky.

Every idea deserves consideration. After all, everyone wants the PE to be a real hit.
