A woman installed a community pantry at the front of her house in Hull to help people who have trouble and need food.
Sarah Dolan installed the avenues and Dukeries Community Pantry using a wardrobe given by a neighbor of Perth Street.
She said he was quickly filled with food and toiletries after an “incredible” community in the community.
Ms. Dolan said: “How many people have just done things sitting in the back of their closets? Rather than waste, it could help someone who needs food.”
On a sign made by his friends, the message on the cabinet reads
Until now the articles of the pantry include sanitary towels, baby food, tea sachets, dog food and beans.
Ms. Dolan said that she had seen a similar idea for an online community pantry that aroused her interest in installing hers.
After having published on the pantry on social networks to let people know that he was there, she said it was “gone a little crazy”.
“In the five minutes of set up on Facebook, one of the neighbors put things there.
“In less than half a day, we must have had between five and 10 people to make donations.
“A person came who said that he had difficulties and that it would really help him.”
She said: “It was not me who makes it work, it’s the community. The answer was immediately.
“Everyone was incredible.
“One of the reasons why I wanted to do is that it is not a question asked, no judgment, that’s right if you need it.”
Ms. Dolan said she wanted other people to install their own pantry to maintain momentum.
The comments on Ms.’s Facebook’s publication on Facebook on the pantry include “what a great idea” and “hope that people will not be greedy with that and take when they don’t need”.
