Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán congratulated Donald Trump on the occasion of his inauguration as the President of the United States at Platform X. “Now it’s our turn to shine. It’s our turn to occupy Brussels,” he wrote. The leader of the right-wing Fidesz party openly supported Trump long before the presidential elections last November.
Viktor Orbán, the head of the Hungarian government, made a speech in Budapest on Monday at the summary conference of Hungary’s six-month presidency in the Council of the European Union, which ended last December. This was the official reason for the Prime Minister’s presence in Washington at the swearing-in ceremony of Donald Trump as the 47th President of the USA.
“I announce the beginning of the second period of operations aimed at occupying Brussels,” said the Hungarian Prime Minister. He pointed to a “patriotic, pro-family, pro-peace, anti-immigration president” and the creation of “a strong, patriotic presence in Brussels.”
In the evening, he published an article on the X platform in which, in addition to congratulating Trump, he wrote: “Now it’s our turn to shine! It’s our turn to take Brussels!”

Orbán expects “peace, tranquility and economic revival” from Trump’s presidency
In a video posted on Facebook, Orbán said Hungary expects “peace, tranquility and economic revival” from the Republican presidency.
Orbán openly supported Trump long before the November US presidential election, even at the expense of strained relations with the Joe Biden administration. He announced the “occupation” of Brussels for the first time after the European Parliament elections in June 2024.
Fidesz, Orbán’s party, belongs to the right-wing wing of Patriots for Europe, which was founded after the recent European Parliament elections and is currently the third largest party in the European Parliament.
