Procedure Anna Adamiak provided new information about Marcin Romanovsky in an interview with Polsat News. A spokesperson for the Prosecutor General recalled that the Warsaw District Court had agreed to issue a European Arrest Warrant (EAW) against the PiS parliamentarian.
– Once the European arrest warrant is entered into the Schengen information system, which could happen tomorrow, it should be assumed that the Hungarian side will refuse to hand over Mr. Romanowski to the Polish public prosecutor's office. That is likely, the spokesperson said.
Meanwhile, the prosecutor pointed out on TVN24 that if a European arrest warrant is issued in the system, “the member of parliament will be wanted.” She described the current situation as “unprecedented, unknown and unpredictable.”
Hungarian Romanovsky. What's the next step? Prosecutor explains
Procedure Adamiak stressed in an interview with Polsat News that the public prosecutor's office has taken the necessary measures, applied for and received the EAW, and that the Hungarian side has the right to take an independent decision on the Romanovsky case.
However, Budapest is obliged to comply with EAW's request. The district court will have to decide whether there are grounds to deny Romanowski's transfer to Poland.
– Polish law enforcement authorities have launched an international investigation, and it is expected that as part of these investigations Mr. Romanowski will be detained and transferred to procedures carried out by the Polish Public Prosecutor's Office. Prosecutor Adamiak stressed that there was nothing else Polish prosecutors could do.
She added that investigators could go a step further by launching an investigation based on the Interpol memo. By doing so, our activities will reach 190 countries around the world.
Romanovsky incident. European arrest warrant issued
We would like to remind you that a court decision led to the temporary arrest of Marcin Romanovsky in connection with the investigation into irregularities in the disbursement of funds from the Justice Fund. Prosecutors fear that the information will be tampered with if the congressman remains at large.
The PiS politician was said to have been hospitalized ahead of his detention hearing and has since been discharged. First, an arrest warrant was issued for Romanovsky, and on Thursday a European arrest warrant was issued.
In the late afternoon, word broke that Romanovsky had been granted asylum in Hungary. The local government positively evaluated the PiS MP's application. It was said that the politician could not expect a fair trial in Poland. Romanovsky pointed to the political involvement of some judges on the government's side and the public declarations of “reconciliation” by their predecessors.
