On November 11, Poland celebrates National Independence Day, commemorating the transfer of the High Command of the Polish Armed Forces to Józef Piłsudski by the Council of Regency on this day in 1919. This holiday was established in 1937 by Seim, Republic of Poland. It was abolished in 1945 and was not officially celebrated throughout the period of the Polish People's Republic. The holiday was reinstated by law in 1989, and since then National Independence Day, November 11, has been a work holiday.
