The abolition of the trains of your category Linie Kolejowe (TLK) may take place between 2027 and 2030, PKP Intercity predicts. There are 46 TLK trains running on the current schedule; in the past there were 54 units, which will be replaced by modern wagons.
In the information sent to PAP, PKP Intercity emphasized that the company is constantly buying new and modernizing its vehicles, which complement the intercity (IC) category. “As its availability increases, the oldest wagons operating in the TLK category will be decommissioned and, if possible, earmarked for further modernization,” the report said.
There is no recent TLK category
“Decommissioning of old coaches will result in the natural demise of the TLK category. The connections operated by it will be shifted to the IC category. The fares of the IC category trains are the same as those of the TLK,” the news said.
The carrier explained that the main difference between TLK and IC categories is comfort – IC category trains use new and modern carriages and many new units. “They are air-conditioned and equipped with a Wi-Fi signal booster. Every passenger can use the outlet to charge their phones and laptops. From the passenger’s point of view, the information systems are very important – displays that show the upcoming stops,” he noted. he
The current number of TLK trains is 46 – in the previous schedule (until December 15, 2024), the number of IC trains was increased. There are 359 of them, and by December 15, 2024, there were 303. “Currently, based on existing and planned contracts, PKP Intercity anticipates that the complete liquidation of the TLK category may take place in 2027 – 2030.” the company reported.

Intercity PKP
PKP Intercity is the largest railway operator in Poland, providing connections between major cities and popular tourist centers of the country, as well as allowing travel throughout Europe.
PKP intercity trains carried 78.5 million passengers last year, which is 15% more than last year. more than a year ago and 33 percent more than in 2022. By 2030, PKP Intercity plans to increase the number of passengers to almost 90 million people every year.
