IndiGo's largest shareholder, InterGlobe Enterprises, has opened boutique lifestyle hotels, Miiro, in Paris and Barcelona and plans to open more properties across Europe in the coming years, company executives said.
Miiro CEO Neena Gupta said Le Grand Hotel Carrier in Paris opened in July and Bolneta in Barcelona opened this month.
The entry-level luxury lifestyle hotel brand is scheduled to open successively in London and Vienna until 2025.
Located in the leafy area of London's Earl's Court, Templeton Gardens is set to open in spring 2025 and offer 156 rooms, as well as a café-deli, a neighborhood restaurant, a lively bar and outdoor dining experiences in an expansive garden oasis, she said.
Two hotels in Vienna, both with strategic locations and over 200 rooms, will be Miiro's next destination.
With further store openings planned for 2026, Miiro is poised to significantly expand its business.
Interglobe, the largest shareholder in Mumbai-listed IndiGo Airlines, has a hospitality division that owns hotels in India and abroad. It has partnered with French hospitality group Accor for its hospitality business in India and currently operates around 7,000 rooms in 30 hotels. Miiro is a wholly owned subsidiary of Interglobe.
Miiro, derived from the Latin “miro” meaning “to wonder” and with a diphthong symbolizing reflection, is a boutique lifestyle hotel “for the confident traveller”, she said.
The hotel combines homely comforts with world-class modern amenities in the heart of the city, offering travellers the opportunity to experience how locals live, she said.
“No two buildings are alike; each one is inspired by the surrounding area, community and local architecture and reflects its unique location,” she said.
According to Gupta, who also serves as executive director of group strategy and international hospitality at InterGlobe Enterprises, the group's international hospitality business currently has more than 2,000 rooms across 13 hotels in 11 countries, including a 240-room hotel in Melbourne, Australia.
He said the idea behind the venture was to “buy high-yield assets in iconic locations” and turn them into lifestyle properties.
The venture began with the acquisition of a 417-room hotel at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport in 2018, followed by the acquisition of the 278-room Reichshof Hotel in Hamburg, Germany.
The company acquired 10 hotels from Austrian hotel company K+K Hotels Elisabeta in 2019. The company owned two hotels each in Austria and the Czech Republic, and one each in France, Germany, Hungary, Romania, Spain and the UK.
“We are currently competing against the best independent brands in a highly competitive market,” Gupta said. “Our brand is for confident travelers who want to connect with their neighborhoods and communities.”
Since 2018, Interglobe has acquired 13 hotel properties in cities including London, Paris, Barcelona, Vienna, Hamburg, Gstaad, Munich, Amsterdam, Prague and Budapest, as well as one property in Melbourne, of which three have been converted into Miiro properties.
Gupta said location and iconic buildings were fundamental to the acquisition strategy.
“I would love to have something in Italy, Milan or Florence,” she says. “Interglobe prides itself on not just identifying opportunities but reinventing industries, and Miiro is a testament to this visionary leadership. We believe travel should be a thoughtful journey, not just a stay. Our new hotels in Paris and Barcelona mark the start of an exciting new chapter for Miiro, as we redefine hospitality through immersive experiences that connect travelers with the heart of each city.”
Located in the Saint-Germain-des-Prés district, Le Grand Hotel Cayre marks the revival of the historic Hôtel Cayre, once home to Parisian artists, writers and intellectuals. This 123-room hotel has been completely renovated.
Bolneta is located in the heart of vibrant El Born, Barcelona's most charming neighborhood, shaped by its artistic, boutique and historical community. The hotel offers 92 individually designed rooms and suites that take creative inspiration from the neighborhood's warm tones and the city's rich colors.
