Turkey's Istanbul Airport once again topped the list of Europe's busiest airports, with an average of 1,510 flights per day, according to a recent report by the European Aviation Safety Agency (Eurocontrol).
For the week from August 12 to August 18, Istanbul International Airport remained the busiest airport, followed by Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport with 1,428 flights and Paris' Charles de Gaulle Airport with 1,412 flights.
Istanbul Airport is one of the most connected airports in the world, with over 1,400 flights per day, frequently ranking at the top of the list.
Another Turkish airport, Antalya Airport, also made it into the top 10 on the list, according to the report. The Mediterranean hub operates 1,034 daily flights, ranking seventh behind London Heathrow, Frankfurt and Madrid Barajas.
In its European Aviation Overview report, Eurocontrol said three of the top 10 airports – Istanbul, Antalya and Rome iGA Airport – are currently handling traffic volumes above 2019 levels.
Passenger numbers at Istanbul Airport increased by 15% compared to 2019, while at Antalya Airport they increased by 3%.
Industry data showed the aviation sector recovered after pandemic constraints, with both airports and Sabiha Gökçen International Airport posting strong performances throughout the first half of the year.
