A heavy snowstorm caught many drivers off guard in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of northern California. Gas stations along Interstate 80 became a popular spot on Saturday.
Snow and wind caused very poor visibility on the roads. There were many accidents, the road was closed in some places.
– We drove, had fun, listened to music. And then suddenly it snowed. “We were stuck and nobody knew what to do,” said a woman from a group going to the Tahoe Music Festival. “We tried to reverse and our car started to slide back and forth,” he said.
“I felt like I was in space”
The friends drove to the nearest gas station in Soda Springs, where they waited out the snowstorm.
– I felt like I was in space. “I felt like I was in some kind of interstellar movie,” said the man, who encountered severe weather on his way to Reno, Nevada, where he stopped in a parking lot.

Saturday was full of dangerous weather events in California. In the town of Scotts Valley, south of San Jose, the tornado knocked over cars, downed power lines and snapped trees. Local media reported that five people were injured.
