“It was an incredible amount,” said Andrea Guido, an Italian employee of the city of Lecce who found a check for 49 million euros on the street. The owner of the valuable loss was found, and as it turned out later, the money was to be invested in a local hotel.
Local media in the southern Italian region of Puglia reported on the unusual discovery. According to the journalists' findings, the check that Andrea Guido found was lying on the sidewalk next to the entrance of the courier company. An employee who was in charge of the city government's environmental department noticed a piece of paper on the ground and picked it up.

As he admits, he couldn't believe his eyes when he saw the amount of security paper.
– It was an outrageous amount (…) At first I thought of taking the check to the police station. But then he got the idea to contact the courier company, he recalled.
– It turned out to be her client and they notified her immediately – he added.

According to the “LeccePrima” portal, representatives of the courier company immediately contacted the owner of the lost item. He was at the Carabinieri station at the time and reported the problem there. It turned out to be a local construction entrepreneur who was planning to invest the money in a hotel.

In the end, the check Guido found ended up in the hands of its rightful owner.
“He has not yet thanked me, but I am glad that he can rest in peace,” the official stressed.
