The Italian police arrested a woman and a man who kidnapped a girl who was born a few days ago from the hospital. The workers found their relatives in the house of this couple. They gathered to celebrate the birth of a child.
According to the news agency ANSA, the baby was kidnapped from the hospital of Cosenza (in the Calabria region) in the afternoon of Tuesday. The girl was taken away by a 43-year-old man and a 51-year-old woman. The 51-year-old entered the hospital dressed as a nurse because he believed it would “make kidnapping easier”. Thanks to surveillance footage, the police found a couple with a baby in their Castrolibero home that same day. Both of them were arrested. The media say that the child was not harmed.

According to the investigators, when the officials arrived at the house of this couple, there was a family celebration related to the birth of a child. “Their relatives were waiting for their (couple – ed.) return, not knowing about the kidnapping,” Rai News reported on Wednesday. Claudio Sole, the local police chief, told reporters: “As soon as we entered, we saw people who could not believe what had happened.” Now the services are investigating the motives of this 51-year-old and 43-year-old man.
Saverio Greco, a representative of the hospital in Cosenza, reported that the abduction of the girl, who was born only a few days ago, took place “during visiting hours”. It is said that the couple argued that they had come to visit relatives. Referring to Rai News, Greco noted that hospital staff do not always show documents before entering. At the same time, he stated that the hospital “is often accused of too strict tests”. “It was a difficult day,” he added, announcing that he would “rethink” changes to the current system.
