“Trump is right” when it comes to choosing a vice presidential candidate
J.D. Vance says “Donald Trump is right” and that the choice of vice presidential nominee will have little impact on the election outcome 00:34
Republican vice presidential nominee Sen. J.D. Vance of Ohio said he agrees with former President Donald Trump that American voters vote for the presidential candidate, not the vice presidential candidate.
“I think most people voted for Donald Trump or Kamala Harris,” Vance said in an interview with “Face the Nation” host Margaret Brennan on Sunday. “Donald Trump delivered higher wages and a secure border. Kamala Harris delivered open borders and lower wages relative to inflation, relative to groceries, relative to housing, relative to everything else.”
President Trump made the allegation about his running mate during a question-and-answer session with Fox News anchor Harris Faulkner at the National Association of Black Journalists in Chicago on July 31.
Asked whether he thought Vance would be ready to one day assume the role of president, Trump said, “Historically, the choice of the vice president doesn't make any difference.”
The Ohio senator, who Trump picked as his vice presidential running mate as the Republican nominee, said most voters “are voting based on who the presidential candidate is, not who the vice presidential candidate is.”
“This is just a political reality. I think Donald Trump is right,” he added.
The full interview with J.D. Vance will air on CBS' “Face the Nation” on Sunday, August 11 at 10:30 a.m. ET and will be available to stream on Paramount+.
