Tomiko Itooka, the world’s oldest Japanese woman listed in the Guinness Book of Records, has died at the age of 116. According to Yoshitsugu Nagata, a senior policy official, Tomiko died on December 29 at a nursing home in Ashiya, Hyogo Prefecture.

Ryosuke Takashima (27) said, “I would like to express my deepest condolences on the passing of Tomiko Itooka, the world’s oldest person. Ms. Itooka gave us courage and hope throughout her long life. I am grateful.” The mayor of Ashiya, who is 20 years old, said this in a statement.

Tomiko Itooka was born on May 23, 1908 in Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture. After graduating from school, she got married and had four children. During the war, she took over management of the textile factory from her husband and ran the Japanese branch alone.
Her husband passed away in 1979, and she had been living alone ever since. Japanese people have always been very physically active and were in the volleyball club at school. In his later years, he loved hiking in the mountains.
