On Sunday afternoon, a citizens' convention attended by Law and Justice politicians was held in Krakow's Sokow Hall. During the event, it was announced that Karol Nawrocki, director of the Institute for National Memory, will run in next year's presidential election with the support of the organization.

– Our decision was determined by the personal advantages of Karol Nawrocki, but also by the current situation in Poland, the Polish-Polish War. We do not want this war (…) We want a reliable, independent, willing and able to end this war not in the name of the interests of one party, but in the name of Poland I need a person. – said Jarosław Kaczynski.
Karol Nawrocki is a PiS candidate. Ukrainian media reported on the lack of an agreement with the Union of Ukrainians in Poland.
After he was announced as a candidate for the presidential election, a short biography of Karol Navrocki was published on the popular Ukrainian portal Espresso.tv. Journalists mainly focused on the statement of the director of the Institute of National Memory on historical Polish-Ukrainian relations.

As has been emphasized, since he began working at the Institute of National Memory, Mr. Navrocki has several times presented a different historical narrative from the one desired by the Union of Ukrainians in Poland. At the heart of the dispute is, among other things, the issue of the Vistula operation.
Representatives of Poland's Ukrainian minority want the actions committed by the government of the People's Republic of Poland to be officially described as crimes against humanity. Karol Nawrocki disagreed with this interpretation, stressing that “there were no deliberate actions with a specific intention leading to the destruction of the whole or part of the national group.”
Against this attitude, it was recalled that the director of the Institute of National Memory considers the Volhynian crime a genocide.
Russian media reported on the “Russophobia'' of the candidate for president of the Republic of Poland.
Russian media also reacted to PiS's support for Karol Navrocki's candidacy. The authors of the Easydaily.com portal also drew attention to the attitude of the director of the Institute of National Memory towards the Volhynian crimes. In their opinion, the Law and Justice decision is a symbolic attack on the Kiev authorities.
“PiS candidate Navrocki is a supporter of the Bandera regime's hard line on Kiev, following a 'pay and pay' formula for the massacre of Poles. Recently, he has referred to the western regions of modern-day Ukraine as 'eastern' It was called “Little Poland” and became the subject of criticism in Kiev.

Although such a statement by Karol Navrocki is useful for the Russian propaganda narrative aimed at highlighting the historical conflict between Poland and Ukraine, it is not meant as praise for the candidacy of the director of the Institute of National Memory. It's not something you do.
The document reminded that Mr. Nawrocki was the director of the Institute of National Memory and took an active part in “a huge operation to destroy Soviet monuments in Poland.” The authors directly call this candidate a “Russophobe.”
