On Wednesday, the services started an exercise at Katowice-Pirzovice airport to learn how to cooperate with each other and fight criminals as effectively as possible. In the operation, which is planned for two days, police officers, guards, soldiers and commanders must, among other things, effectively rescue hostages and defuse explosives. The TVN24 team observes the exercises.
The activities are carried out under the code name CEPEX24. They started on Wednesday with a press briefing of representatives of security agencies and services. The need to improve cooperation in the context of terrorist threats, among others, was discussed by the governor of Silesia – Marek Wojcik, the head of the police of Silesia – superintendent. Mariusz Krystyniak. Colonel Krzysztof Banashek, the chief of staff of the special forces component, and the commander of the Silesian state fire service, Brig. Wojciech Kruczek.
– Cepex24 is one of the largest projects of this type in Silesia in recent years. The scenario of the exercise includes, among others: hostage situations, detonation of explosives and many other unexpected situations that the services have to deal with in order to effectively control the threat – says tvn24.pl, commissioner Sabina Čira-Gieres from the provincial police office in Katowice.
Two days of training
A mock fight against terrorists was held on Wednesday at the airport in Pirzovice and on Thursday at the Silesia Chorzów stadium.
– The script will be kept secret until the last minute. The idea is that the service representatives will be surprised by it and have to make a decision immediately. I can only say that the plan includes, among others: hostage situations, detonation of explosives and many other unexpected events – says Chira-Gieresh.
The exercises, as the policewoman points out, help to increase the level of safety and ensure an effective response to any potential threats.
