An Azerbaijan Airlines passenger plane crashed at Aktau Airport in Kazakhstan. The aircraft was flying from Baku to Grozny. The airline said there were 72 passengers. According to initial information from Kazakhstan's Ministry of Emergency Situations, only six people were expected to survive the disaster.
According to preliminary information, the crash of the Embraer 190 occurred around 12:00 pm local time (September 8, Polish time).
The plane, which took off from Baku in Azerbaijan and headed for Grozny in Chechnya, was diverted due to fog, Reuters reported, citing the Russian news agency.

According to Russian media reports, the Azerbaijan Airlines plane was initially scheduled to land at Makhachkala airport, but Aktau in Kazakhstan was ultimately chosen.

Firefighters extinguished the fire and the injured were taken to a nearby hospital, the Ministry of Emergencies said in a statement. Initial information suggests that only six people survived the disaster. However, there may be more survivors.
