Indian cricketer KL Rahul has been appointed brand ambassador for men's lifestyle brand Meta Man and has increased his investment in the company for its new range of premium fragrances, the company said in a press release on Tuesday.
Financial details of the investment were not disclosed, but an official statement said the funds raised by the company will be used for the launch and marketing of its fragrance range, which is due to be released on August 30.
“KL Rahul has made an undisclosed investment in the Drip Project luxury fragrance line, which has been rebranded as Metaman,” the official press release read. Founded in 2022, Metaman will acquire Drip Project in 2023 and aims to provide affordable, high-quality products to Gen Z (people born between 1997-2012).
Speaking about joining the project, Rahul said he has always been interested in the health, wellness, sports and fashion sectors, adding, “I chose to enter a space where I feel comfortable and where I can contribute wholeheartedly rather than just being a face or an ambassador…”
Commenting on the development, Harsh Maskara, co-founder of 'Metaman by Drip Project' said that Rahul has been associated with the company since its inception.
“When I introduced the idea of expanding The Drip Project into the fragrance market and relaunching Metaman, he (Rahul) was immediately interested,” Mascara added.
Celebrities broaden investment horizons
Recently, Rahul expanded his investment portfolio with an investment in Flam, an AI-driven company. He has also invested in Boldfit, XYXX, Hyugalife, 4Cast and Players Fund. Rahul is not the only celebrity who has expanded his investment portfolio by showing keen interest in startups.
In July, Olympic badminton player PV Sindhu also announced an investment in wellness brand Hoop. Similarly, celebrity couple Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma have invested in Bengaluru-based startup Digit Insurance, which recently went public.
Similarly, Sachin Tendulkar holds undisclosed minority stakes in education technology company Unacademy and sports entertainment arena Smaaash, while Olympian Neeraj Chopra also has a stake in a regional language streaming platform called Stage.
