LAKE MARY, Fla. – Lake Mary Little League players rode a mile through downtown Williamsport on a parade float made from a large trailer, along with 19 other teams from around the world.
The 12 boys and their three coaches felt like rock stars, waving to spectators and signing autographs from a float throughout Tuesday's Grand Slam parade, which was expected to draw up to 40,000 people.
“It's so unbelievable,” Michelle Anderson said. “This is just one step towards making a dream come true.”
Anderson's son, Chase, is the team's center fielder and her husband, Jonathan, is the head coach, and she said attending the Little League World Series with him has been a surreal experience.
“It's been a long journey to get to this point and it's certainly not been easy,” she added. “All of this luck has come together and all of their hard work has paid off, which is fantastic.”
Earlier in the day, News 6 caught up with the team at practice, and they looked sharp, focused and ready for the bright lights of Lamade Stadium.
Teraj Alexander, the team's first baseman and pitcher, said everyone is fired up for Wednesday's matchup against Sioux Falls, S.D., at 7 p.m.
“I'm really excited,” said the 12-year-old. “I'll be performing in front of a big audience so it's going to be a really fun and cool experience.”
Prior to first pitch Wednesday, all 20 teams competing in the Little League World Series will take part in opening ceremonies at 11 a.m.
