Lauryn Hill and the Fugees have cancelled their North American dates but confirmed that their UK and European dates will go ahead as planned. The US legs of their Miseducation Anniversary Tour were removed from Live Nation and Ticketmaster just weeks before the end of the tour, sparking speculation about the UK and European dates.
Hill posted a statement on Instagram, writing, “It was a difficult decision to cancel our upcoming North American tour dates. UK and European shows remain proceeding as planned.”
She also addressed the “Ready or Not” hitmaker's decision to cancel her North American tour dates, suggesting that a “narrative” had been created in some quarters.
She continued, “I suffered an injury last year that forced me to reschedule several shows. Unfortunately, it appears that some media outlets' penchant for sensationalism and clickbait headlines has created a narrative that has impacted ticket sales for the North American portion of the tour. My trust and belief in my intentions, and my dedication to my art, have been overshadowed by this unfortunate portrayal.”
In a lengthy statement, the Killing Me Softly singer noted that while fans in the UK and Europe have yet to see the “Miseducation Anniversary” performance, they “haven't seen the Fugees perform together in over 25 years.”
She added, “Performing for my fans is a deep exchange of energy and emotion that excites me every time. Every show is a part of my expression and a testament to our connection and shared love of music. I can safely say that no one is more disappointed about not being able to perform than I am. I am not only grateful for those who appreciate and support my art, but I want you to know that I am fighting and pushing through all resistance to put together an experience that is meaningful for all of us. I love being able to bring these performances to you all!”
And she promised to come back to North America “full force” in the future.
“Thank you for your understanding. We look forward to performing in the UK and Europe in October, and to our fans in North America, we will be back in full force once this unforeseen situation is resolved,” Hill said.
