A DHL cargo plane crashed into a residential building in Vilnius. At least one person was killed and another injured. A fire broke out in a two-story apartment building. Emergency services were called to the scene.
A cargo plane belonging to the logistics company DHL crashed into a residential building near Vilnius Airport at around 4:30 a.m. Monday morning Polish time, LRT broadcaster reported.
Lithuania's airport said online that the plane was flying from Leipzig, Germany, when it crashed in the Liepkarnis district near the capital Vilnius.
“Services are currently arriving on the scene with fire engines and a command team from Vilnius Airport. Airport operations are not disrupted at this time,” the statement added.

The aircraft was scheduled to have two pilots on board. Unofficial reports said one of them died. In addition to the two pilots, two employees were also scheduled to be on board the plane.
Meanwhile, LRT reported that one person was injured and two were taken to hospital. The second pilot was to be released from the machine by the service.
– Virmantas Vitkauskas, director of the National Crisis Management Center (NKVC), said there were no casualties among the residents of the building in Vilnius where the plane crashed and fell next to it on Monday.

He added that 12 residents were evacuated from their homes.
Photos and audio recordings were posted on social media showing huge flames and smoke billowing from the plane crash. The road was closed by the service.
