In an interview with Sesstry.eu, Rasa Jukneviciene spoke about Lithuania’s role as a NATO member in ensuring local security, among other things. As she emphasized, her country “actively prepares a defensive plan and what will he do with his power?” This is because it is mandatory in the third article on the NATO card. However, all activities must be coordinated with your loved one.
– Our defense plan is regional and includes the Baltic States and Poland, which are under the NATO Group Defense umbrella. There are no separate plans for Lithuania, Latvia or other individual countries – she pointed out.
In her opinion, facing new challenges, the European Union is just entering a new era focused on security and defense.
War in Ukraine. “Affiliation of Volunteers” and the role of Lithuania
Lithuania’s Minister of Defense emphasized whether it could be a substitute for the North Atlantic Alliance and that the Lithuanian Minister of Defense “NATO is a priority.”
– Only NATO can make clear and comprehensive plans. Because she explained to her to have resources, understand the possibilities, and accurately identify military threats.
At the same time, Juknevicien emphasized that the security of the Baltic Sea and the countries surrounding them is absolutely one. Therefore, she said that national strategies in the region should consist of complementing and strengthening common security and defense rather than replicating efforts.
Jukniciece Race: Poland security is our security
The MEP also mentioned the decisions of Lithuania, Poland, Latvia and Estonia to withdraw from the international treaty on the use of cassette ammunition and the termination of the Ottawa Convention.
– Regarding cassette ammunition, this is just the end of a story that began at least six months ago, if not six months ago, when the massive war in Ukraine began. (…) Unfortunately, this is a very sensitive issue, but the use of the mine is necessary for fear and defense of invaders – she announced that Finland could soon join the initiative.
– If Poland is attacked, it will affect us all. Polish security is ours, just like Latvian security – she added.
The Jukneviciene variety also believes that there should not be a “red line” when it comes to helping Ukraine, especially since Russia’s aggressive actions are directed not only towards Ukraine, but also towards the entire European Union.
– You must prepare for these challenges. Security and defense issues must be considered at many levels: countering direct military threats, countering hybrid wars, and fighting spies and sabotage like the last incident in the Baltic Sea – she summed up.
