Venezuela beats Japan 3-2
There was no shortage of drama in the showdown between Venezuela and Japan.
The game was a back-and-forth affair from the beginning, but in the fourth inning, Venezuela seemed destined for an easy win when they scored three runs on consecutive triples by Baker Zarra and Luis Yepes.
However, Japan fought back with two runs, forcing starting pitcher Diego Vialetta out of the game.
Johnson-Frates, however, was the winning team's reliever, allowing just one hit over the final three innings while striking out three. But Japan was not without danger in the sixth inning when they had runners on second and third with one out.
Venezuela then got a grounder to stop a potential tying run, and Freites induced a flyout to secure the 3-2 victory.
Next up is a match against Chinese Taipei, but Venezuela will no doubt first be celebrating Thursday's thrilling win.
Florida beats Nevada 6-3
Florida scored four runs in the first inning, including two solo home runs, en route to a 6-3 win over Nevada.
Florida advanced its first six runners on base on three walks and three singles. Landon Bono, DeMarcos Mises and Jacob Bibeau all had hits to score a combined four runs. Mises had a two-run single.
Nevada then fought back after putting its first five runners on base, with Oliver Johnson and Noah Letal hitting singles before a sacrifice fly by Parker Soranaka made it 4-3.
Florida's power flashed after that, as JJ Feliciano hit a solo home run in the third inning and Garrett Rohrhausen added another in the sixth.
But Nevada kept fighting, getting two singles to put a runner on base with two outs to tie the game, but a flyout to center field ended the game.
Florida will now face Texas in the national championship game. The teams met earlier in the tournament, with Texas winning 4-1.
