We met Roseby Morton, founder of The Real Flower Company, a luxury florist and one of the UK's largest growers of traditionally scented flowers.
As well as managing a 12-acre farm in Hampshire and a two-acre sweet pea farm in Chichester, Roseby also has two stores in London serving the city's most affluent areas, selling hand-tied bouquets of the most fragrant British flowers.
My car of choice
We've had our trusty Volvo for 12 years. We bought it used and it now has nearly 200,000 miles on it. It's been a farm car, a surf and camping car, a music festival car, and we still keep upgrading it when needed. It's served us faithfully through all weather and tough terrain. But if I were to pick a car right now? It would be a 1968 Mercedes-Benz 280SL Convertible. My wolfhound, Willa, would love this car too. What girl doesn't love the wind blowing through her hair!
My favourite holiday destination
Lamu is my happy place. I first visited in 1996 and not much has changed. The locals are an eclectic mix and the whole island is unspoiled, laid-back and unpretentious. The weather is gorgeous, the sea is perfect and mangoes are always in season. Some people come here and never leave.
A gadget that I can't live without
I keep losing these in the garden so I have several – it's one of the most useful tools I own, perfect for digging holes in stony ground, tough against any weeds (even those with long taproots) and slim enough not to cause collateral damage in crowded flower beds.
My favourite fashion brand
Brora is committed to slow fashion and is always mindful of its environmental impact, sourcing materials locally where possible and designing and creating beautiful, timeless clothing – my favourite Brora jumper is over 20 years old and will likely last another 20 years if it doesn't shrink.
My airline of choice
Because Jumbo will take me to Lamu. The Jumbo jet is a De Havilland Dash, an adventure-sounding name. It has that old-fashioned adventure vibe, flying from Nairobi to Lamu four times a week, stopping like a bus along the way.
My favourite watch brand
My Rolex is over 30 years old and was a gift from my husband. He chose it wisely because it is strong, durable, looks good and will be with me wherever I go and in whatever conditions. It has withstood endless life choices, withstood the dirt and scratches and still works.
My favourite restaurant
Gurkha's Inn, Winchester. We love this friendly, independently run restaurant serving delicious Nepalese and Indian food. We go as a family and my partner goes too, so it's a fairly large group. We all have different tastes, but this is the one place where everyone is happy with the menu – especially the person who is paying.
My hidden pleasure
I love macarons – those pastel-coloured treats you find in exotic French bakeries and local supermarkets – they're sweet, crispy and chewy, and all the good stuff you're missing from your healthy five-a-day diet, which makes them even tastier.
My favorite way to give back
Smiling is very easy to do. It's a very natural and unobtrusive form of communication. It creates connection, sympathy and empathy. We should keep smiling even if the smile is not returned, because it is returned and it is felt. And that's what matters.
