Lyme disease is diagnosed in hundreds of thousands of people every year. There are around 20,000 people in Poland alone. This number is this number for each year.
Untreated Lyme disease can cause serious complications such as chronic fatigue, joint pain, and neuropathy. Despite years of effort, it is impossible to launch a vaccine that is effective, safe, and can be implemented on a large scale.

New strategies that could form the basis for effective vaccines against Lyme disease have proven to be extremely promising in non-clinical research. It gives hope after years of research to prevent this dangerous disease.

Previous tests were based on surface proteins of Borrelia burgdorferi. First natural PO protein, then OSPC. Recently, it has been suggested that CSPZ protein may be a better purpose for vaccines. This is because it is produced in very large quantities during infection. At the same time, it is an important factor in infection that bacteria can avoid detection of the host’s immune system. However, the problem was that the natural form of this protein did not trigger a strong immune response.

Currently, international researchers have discovered that genetic modifications of CSPZ can cause long-term protection against infections, and vaccines based on this protein require potentially low doses.
“We have long known that CSPZ is the perfect purpose for vaccines, but in its natural form, this protein does not stimulate the immune system very strongly. To improve this, its structure had to be modified to reveal hidden fragments that the immune system recognizes and responds to them.” – the author of the discovery of the magazine was able to discover the authors who were discovered.

After many attempts, the procedure was successful – the modified CSPZ induced a strong immune response in mice used for preclinical testing. And, as scientists have emphasized, rodents and immune cells respond in very similar ways, so similar effects can occur in patients.

In the next phase of the study, scientists dealt with altering protein structures to make them more stable at body temperature. “This allows it to stay in the body for a long time and constantly stimulate the production of protective antibodies.
The team is currently planning to conduct clinical trials on people and use the preparedness tested for vaccination of wild mice, carriers of mites transmitted bacteria.
