Since opening its first hotel in Asia Pacific in Sydney in 1989, Marriott Hotels has opened more than 50 hotels in the region, with nearly 40 more in the pipeline.
Marriott International has opened its 600th hotel in Asia Pacific excluding China with the opening of the Adelaide Marriott Hotel in South Australia, the company's first hotel in the state and highlighting its commitment to expansion into emerging destinations.
The hotel is a 14-storey tower with 285 rooms, including 12 suites, and is located next to the historic Adelaide General Post Office. The opening responds to growing trends in domestic and regional travel as visitors seek unique experiences closer to home.
“The Adelaide Marriott Hotel is a brand that bears our founding family's name and we are thrilled to celebrate the milestone of our 600th hotel in the region. With 600 hotels in operation across APEC and nearly 400 in the pipeline, our growth trajectory is strong. Our strategy to be present everywhere our guests want is further strengthened by our recently announced plans to enter the mid-scale hospitality segment, providing us with further opportunities to expand our portfolio's presence in new markets and beyond key gateway cities,” said Rajeev Menon, president, Asia Pacific ex-China.
