LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) – After a long week of celebrations, Mayo Clinic Health Systems held the first public open day event for their new $215 million facility.
La Crosse area residents finally got a chance to tour the brand new Mayo Hospital, which was officially completed recently, and since the building took about two and a half years to construct, there was definitely an appetite to go inside and see what the building is like.
“There's natural curiosity,” said Tanner Holst, community trustee for Mayo Clinic Health System. “The community has been closely watching the plans for this for two, two-and-a-half years, and this is really the culmination event to be able to show the facility to the public. It's a great opportunity for us to open the doors and show how amazing this place is.”
When participants finished their tour, it is safe to say their expectations were exceeded as the new hospital will not only benefit the local community, but the entire Mayo Health Clinic system.
“This tells the community that we're here to stay,” said Julie Bartels, Mayo facility tourism director. “Mayo and the Franciscan organization that started this all are here to stay. They're committed to the community. They're committed to their patients. And they're committed to providing a well-equipped hospital for their staff to work in.”
The planned opening date for the new facility is September 2024, but that could change to earlier if necessary.
