Meghan Markle's new brand, American Riviera Orchard, is making waves as CEO search struggles to find a new CEO
Meghan Markle is struggling to find a CEO, delaying the launch of her new lifestyle brand, the New York Post reports.
American Riviera Orchard, named after the couple's coastal California home and which first garnered online buzz with a teaser on March 14, aims to offer a wide selection of kitchen and lifestyle products. Despite the buzz, the brand's development has been hampered by a lack of a suitable leader.
“The numbers don't lie – the fact that nearly 20 staff have left speaks for itself,” a source told The New York Times, adding that discontent has grown among employees because Harry and Meghan are “very demanding and difficult to work with.”
Markle's recently hired chief of staff, Josh Kettler, has resigned after just three months in the role. Kettler, a public relations specialist, was hired to facilitate Prince Harry's official duties, including trips to London for the Invictus Games. Kettler's resignation was by mutual consent, with both parties agreeing he was no longer the right person for the job.
Despite these setbacks, Markle's brand has seen strong reactions to its first products. In March, she sent out jars of strawberry jam to select celebrities, getting American Riviera Orchard off to a strong start. The brand's Instagram account features retro-style videos of Markle in her kitchen, hinting at a focus on home, cooking and entertaining.
The brand's trademark use suggests a diverse product line that includes kitchenware, edibles like jams and spreads, and even cosmetics. The name “American Riviera” is a reference to Markle and Harry's hometown of Santa Barbara, California, which is known for its Mediterranean climate and lush landscapes.
While a launch date has not been confirmed, American Riviera Orchard is reportedly set to debut in late 2024. The brand's Instagram profile states that it is “launching in 2024” and describes the brand as reflecting Markle's personal style and interests.
