WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWNY) – Here are some notable health news stories today.
Male cancer deaths
Cancer cases and deaths among men are expected to nearly double by 2050, with older people and those living in developing countries likely to bear the brunt of this increase, according to a new study published in the journal Cancer.
Researchers say men are at higher risk of cancer because they are less likely to avoid risk factors or get screened than women.
Kids eat free
Free school meal programs reduce obesity and suspension rates.
Researchers at Texas A&M University analyzed six studies that involved 11,000 elementary, middle, and high school students.
The data also showed that student participation in meals increased, but attendance only improved slightly.
Needle-free epipen
The FDA has approved a needle-free version of the EpiPen.
Neffy, manufactured by ARS Pharmaceuticals, is an epinephrine nasal spray that can be used to treat anaphylaxis and other allergic reactions in both children and adults.
The FDA said it approved Nephi because studies have shown that the spray and injected products have similar epinephrine blood levels.
