@is_sirois – Player Prop – Mookie Betts O/U 1.5 TB: I posted this as X’s free play of the day. I’m 9-3 since I started sharing it, but let’s take a closer look at why this bet is so good today. Of course, if you want more free picks you can check out today’s MLB Player Prop column, but I digress.
Betts has struggled a bit, slashing just .174/259/.435 over his last seven games, but when you run through those numbers, all of his hits have been extra base hits, with three doubles and one home run included in that sample.
Tonight's matchup with the Baltimore Orioles and left-hander Cole Irvin is a great opportunity for Betts. Irvin is batting .316/.364/.552 against right-handed hitters. Betts is batting .327/.393/.500 against lefties. It's a match made in heaven.
It's no coincidence that Betts has had success against left-handed pitching. Last year, he hit .300/.424/.673 against lefties. In 2022, he's slashed .308/.374/.609 against them. Betts hasn't gotten a hit in two at-bats against Irvin so far, but he should get one or more tonight.
The final reason I'm excited about this play is the wind. It's 9.2 mph winds in Los Angeles today with 56% humidity and a mild 75 degree temperature. Look for Betts to take advantage of the combination and conditions to get some extra base hits.

The Oakland slugger is getting a 1.5 hit, 1 run and 1 RBI line tonight against left-hander Nick Lodolo, with odds of just -130 on bet365. That seems a bit odd considering temperatures will be near 95 degrees tonight in Cincinnati, one of the best hitting environments in baseball, and the game is expected to see close to 10 runs.
Rooker will have the advantage of the platoon tonight, and Lodolo has been completely dominated by right-handed power hitters this season.
The Cincinnati left-hander has allowed 13 home runs and a .711 OPS against right-handers in 2024. He also has an ERA of 6.00 or better in 54.2 innings at home.
What's really impressive about this — and no, that's not a pun — is that Lodolo's limited pitch combinations play directly to Rooker's strengths.
Using primarily his four-seam fastball, curveball and changeup, Rooker has posted slugging percentages of .515, .609 and .435, respectively.
And when Lodolo tries to sneak a sinker at the Athletics' rookie 30-home run man, he'll be facing a player with a .412 batting average and .706 slugging percentage against that pitch.
Everything is in Rooker's favor tonight, at -130 so you can't miss it.
