The stratovolcano located on Mount Ibu still worries the inhabitants of the Indonesian island of Halmahera. Only on Sunday, there were several explosions and a thick cloud of ash appeared from the crater.
In January, Mount Ibu, a stratovolcano located in eastern Indonesia, erupted more than a thousand times, according to a report on Sunday by the Geological Survey of Indonesia. The volcano is located on the island of Halmahera in the Maluku archipelago.
Mass destruction and evacuation of the population
On Wednesday, there was a strong eruption of the stratovolcano. According to local media, thick smoke came out of the crater and reached a height of about four kilometers. Authorities ordered the evacuation of 3,000 residents of Mount Ibu.
As reported by AFP, Wednesday’s eruption was one of the 1079 eruptions of this stratovolcano since January 1 of this year by the Geological Agency of Indonesia.

The last very strong explosion was recorded on Sunday at 1:15 local time. The ash cloud that came out of the crater reached a height of 1.5 kilometers.
“The ash cloud was thick and thick. A loud roar could be heard,” Indonesia’s Geological Survey said in a statement. He added that a total of 17 explosions were recorded on Sunday alone.
Despite the decision to evacuate several thousand residents, the authorities managed to move only 517 people to safe places by Sunday. Many people avoided evacuation by continuing to harvest crops.
– Many people are harvesting now. We will continue to educate the communities and encourage evacuation, said Aditya Yuni Nurtono, Ternate District Military Commander.
Indonesia is located in the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire, a region of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. There are about 127 active volcanoes in this country alone.
