Valparaiso Police Department receives 5th CALEA accreditation
According to the announcement, the Valparaiso Police Department has received its fifth accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA).
The accreditation process and award is the culmination of a self-evaluation concluded with a review by independent evaluators and CALEA commissioners against a system of professional standards. The city is one of 14 municipalities in Indiana to achieve accreditation, according to the announcement.

Edgewater Health celebrates National Health Center Week
Edgewater Health is celebrating National Health Center Week with a variety of wellness activities and conversations as part of its “Mind, Body, Spirit” series, according to a company release.
Activities included a 60-minute circuit session led by Tiffany Blakemore, owner of Vitamin T Fitness in Merrillville. The free workout session included cycling (spin), chair exercises and trampolining.
Other recent activities hosted by Edgewater include a Patient Appreciation Day on Aug. 7th, which provided free nutritional bags to all clients and visitors to Edgewater facilities, and a presentation by Dr. Nchekwube on Aug. 10th called “10 Habits of Happy, Healthy People.”
Valparaiso Police Department is looking for applicants
The Valparaiso Police Department is accepting applications for police officers, according to a release.
Applicants should submit an application at PoliceApp.com or www.valparaisopolice.org. Minimum requirements for employment include being a U.S. citizen between the ages of 21 and 40 with a high school diploma or GED, a valid driver's license and no previous felony convictions, the release said.

Franciscans Michigan City and Munster plan free classes for at-risk youth
Franciscan Health Michigan City and Franciscan Health Munster will be hosting free, one-day courses this fall aimed at helping those who interact with young people on a daily basis better understand and support their challenges, according to the release.
The free intensive workshop will introduce common mental health challenges among youth, review typical adolescent development, and teach a five-step action plan for supporting youth in both at-risk and non-at-risk situations.
The free Mental Health First Aid course for at-risk youth is scheduled for Sept. 12 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the multipurpose room at Franciscan Health Michigan City Legacy Campus, 301 W. Franciscan Health Dyer hosts free baby expo
Franciscan Health Dyer will host a free baby expo for expectant families and new parents, according to the announcement.
The Twinkle Twinkle Little Star Baby Expo is scheduled for Sept. 7 from 10 a.m. to noon in the first floor conference room at Francisco Health Dyer (24 Joliet St.).
Information and education on car seat safety, prenatal care, safe sleep and breastfeeding will be provided along with input from health allies, clinical staff, health care providers and community resources. Tours of the Family Birth Center will also be available. The event is free, but registration is required. Call 1-800-931-3322.
PNW Adds AI Master's Degree
(PNW) will offer a new Master of Science in Applied Artificial Intelligence program, with the first students expected to begin courses in the spring, according to a press release.
According to the release, applied artificial intelligence students will learn how AI can be used to solve tough real-world problems, analyze data, automate tasks and streamline processes in these and other fields.
