Kirty Copentry has been elected head of the International Olympic Committee. This is a precedent. Because for the first time in history, women will be in this position just like people from Africa. Coventry, 41, is a former Zimbabwean swimmer. The office will cover in June after Thomas Bach’s resignation.
The election for the head of the International Olympic Committee took place on Thursday, March 20th in the 144th session of the committee in Greece. Upon voter decision, the head of the IOC will soon become a 41-year-old swimmer in Kars Coventry, Zimbabwe. This is the first woman in this position and the first in the black land.
We know the new head of the International Olympic Committee
Coventry, as head of the IOC, replaces Thomas Bach and will occur precisely on June 23rd. In the competition, she defeated two other strong candidates who anointed Bach. Media pointed out that she was particularly 41 years old, and she was pleased with the decision in 2024 to allow athletes from Russia and Belarus to participate in the Olympics held in Paris.

Kirsty Copentry becomes the head of the IOC
Kirty Copentry’s term of office lasts for eight years. Shortly after the announcement of the results of the vote, the former player emphasized that it was a great honor and commitment to prioritizing pride and values for her.
– This is an extraordinary moment. As a 19 year old girl, I didn’t think I would stand here to give anything to this amazing move – she was quoted during the session by the official IOC website.

She has been a member of the Coventry Committee since 2013, and since 2018 she has been Minister of Sports Zimbabwe and Vice President of the International Surfing Federation.
During her career, she was a representative of athletes at the world’s anti-intake organizations and a member of the Athlete Committee. As a player, she won seven Olympic medals, including two golden discs.
