The South Korean group K-Pop Newjeans announced that they were taking a break in all activities, after a court ruled against them in their current dispute with their ADOR label.
The five pieces, which tried to rename the NJZ, announced Sunday during a show at Complexcon Hong Kong that “it will be our last performance for a little while”, after launching their new singing stop.
Friday, the court’s decision prohibited the group from organizing their own appearances, making music or signing advertising offers during their dispute with Ardor.
Newjeans seeks to cut bonds with Ador after having accused them of ill -treatment, and said they would dispute the court’s decision.
The Hong Kong concert marked the group’s first public appearance on Sunday evening since the court decision.
After having started their new song, the five members Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin and Heyin took turns to read a letter addressed to their fans in English and Korean.
“This step means so much for us and each of you who gives us strength just by being here,” said Hanni and Dani.
“It is really difficult for us to say it, but it could be our last performance for a little while. Out of respect for the court’s decision, we have decided to suspend all our activities for the moment.
“It was not an easy decision,” they added, “but we think that is something we have to do right now.”
The group also said that the decision was “to protect us so that we can come back even stronger”.
“We had to speak to protect the values we believe, and it was a choice that we do not regret at all,” they added.
“We surely believe that defending our dignity, our rights and all that we deeply care is something we have to do, and this belief will not change.”
The speech put an end to a headliner of an hour in front of a crowd of more than 11,000 fans at the Asiaworld Expo Arena, the largest Live Music place in Hong Kong.
The group has occurred under their new name NJZ, as an apparent challenge of last week’s decision.
In a statement on Monday, Ador said that they “regret the members’ decision to perform a performance under a name other than Newjeans, despite the court order, and unilateral announcement of a suspension of activities”.
“Ador is fully determined to support Newjeans, in accordance with the terms of our legally valid exclusive contract,” they added. “We hope to meet the artists as soon as possible to discuss the path to follow.”
Newjeans and Ador have been involved in a long dispute since August 2024, the group making public with a number of complaints against the label, in particular that it had deliberately compromised their career.
Hanni also allegedly alleged that she had suffered from harassment at work while working with Ador.
The Court of Seoul judged that the complaints of Newjeans did not prove enough that Ador had violated their important obligation within the framework of their contract “, adding that the music label had confirmed” most of its obligations, including payment “.
The Court’s decision prevents the band from carrying out independent activities, which means that it will be confronted with difficulties in renamed under its new name, NJZ, without facing serious financial sanctions for breach of contract.
Newjeans is considered one of the new brightest groups in K-pop, thanks to a playful mixture of R&B from 1990s and pop melodies coated with sugar.
In 2023, they were the eighth best -selling act in the world. Last year, they won an appointment for the best group at the MTV Awards.
