Kim Jong Un has issued a directive that all North Korean soldiers who died in the Ukraine war will be allowed to join the Workers’ Party after their deaths. Although family members are given many privileges, they are prohibited from crying, expressing condolences, or revealing their situation.
The Pentagon and South Korean intelligence agencies estimate that about 12,000 North Korean soldiers have been sent to Russia since October on Kim Jong Un’s orders. At least 300 of them were killed and thousands more injured.
As Radio Free Asia (RFA) journalists managed to establish, the families of the men sent to the front were not informed of this fact in advance. Surprised relatives of the deceased are informed of the death in a special way.
