Ohio State University's graduate and professional programs continue to rank among the best in the nation and state, according to U.S. News & World Report's 2024-25 “America's Best Graduate Schools.”
Several Ohio State colleges reported having degree and specialty programs ranked in the latest edition of the Top 10. In the rankings, the College of Nursing’s traditional Master of Science (MS) program ranked No. 1 among public institutions in the country, and the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program was once again ranked in the top 20 in the nation.
The School of Nursing’s in-person MS program ranked fourth overall, up from eighth place last year. This marks the sixth consecutive year that the MS degree program has ranked in the top 10 in the nation.
The Fisher College of Business' Working Professional MBA was ranked 5th among part-time programs at public universities (10th overall). This marks the third time the WPMBA has been named a top 10 program in the past five years.
“Ohio State's graduate and professional programs continue to excel in a wide range of fields, a testament to our university's land-grant tradition and commitment to preparing future leaders, scholars and practitioners,” said Interim Vice Provost and Dean Carla Zadnik. “We are thrilled that these programs have been recognized for their academic excellence.”
U.S. News graduate and professional program rankings cover only a small portion of the programs offered at Ohio State University, and not all programs are ranked each year. Ohio State enrolls more than 14,000 graduate and professional students in 102 doctoral programs and 127 master's programs.
Below are highlights from U.S. News' college-by-college rankings of Ohio State graduate programs for 2024-25.
In the College of Arts and Sciences, among the natural and mathematical sciences graduate programs, Computer Science (27) ranked in the top 30 this year, and among the social and behavioral sciences graduate programs, two ranked in the top 20 this year: Audiology (9) and Speech-Language Pathology (14).
The College of Education and Human Ecology ranks 21st nationally for its graduate education programs, up four spots from last year. Seven of its specialized programs continue to rank in the top 10 nationally, including Educational Administration (6), Curriculum and Instruction (7), Student Counseling (7), Elementary Teacher Education (8), Secondary Teacher Education (8), Educational Psychology (9), and Higher Education Administration (9). Additionally, two specialized programs, Education Policy and Special Education, both rank 22nd.
Fisher's full-time MBA program saw a significant improvement in its annual rankings, rising to 11th among public universities (30th overall).
The John Glenn School of Public Policy rose from 19th to 16th in the rankings, placing it in the top 10% of public policy graduate professional degree programs on the list for the 10th consecutive year. The school also ranked in seven specializations: Public Management and Leadership (7th), Nonprofit Management (9th), Local Government (18th), Social Policy (19th), Public Policy Analysis (20th), Urban Policy (22nd) and Public Finance (25th).
Within the School of Medicine, two clinical doctoral programs in the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences rose in this year's rankings, reaffirming their reputation for excellence: Physical Therapy rose to #8 and Occupational Therapy to #11. This year's Best Medical Schools rankings also moved to a tier system, with the highest performing schools ranked in Tier 1 and the lowest performing schools ranked in Tier 4. The School of Medicine was one of 16 schools in Tier 1 for research and one of 35 schools in Tier 2 for primary care.
Moritz School of Law continues to rank highly, 26th overall out of 196 accredited law schools and 9th nationally among all public law schools. The school's Dispute Resolution program is ranked #1 in the nation and nine programs are ranked in the top 50 nationally: Criminal Law (15), Health Law (15), Constitutional Law (29), Legal Writing (32), Business and Corporate Law (35), Contracts and Commercial Law (36), Intellectual Property Law (44), International Law (45), and Tax Law (49).
The College of Pharmacy is ranked No. 1 in the state and No. 4 in the country among all schools of pharmacy, continuing the school's tradition of ranking in the top 10 for over a decade and moving up from No. 7 in 2020.
The School of Public Health is ranked 29th overall, making it one of the highest-ranked public health schools and programs in the nation and No. 1 in Ohio. Three specialty programs within the School of Public Health were evaluated for the first time: Biostatistics (22), Epidemiology (25), and Health Policy and Management (17). U.S. News & World Report previously ranked the university's MHA program 8th in the nation.
The School of Social Work is ranked 12th out of 366 programs nationally and in the top 3% of all programs. The department also ranks tied for first in the state, seventh among public programs in the country, and second among the 10 Big Ten programs.
The College of Engineering's graduate program was ranked 27th overall, again No. 1 in Ohio, and rose to No. 13 among public universities.
