Brzoskwinka and Belmondo are the names of the horses that the head of one of the cities of the Olkusz commune (Lesser Poland) kept in the refrigerator of the truck. It seems that the mare was given as a gift for the children, but after a few months she became ill. Its condition is so bad that, despite being young, it will not survive next year. The village chief can be prosecuted for insult.
At the end of October, a person who went to collect mushrooms in one of the towns near Olkuz made a surprising discovery. The sighting of the rattlesnake alarmed her, so she called the Animal Welfare Society of Krakow to report it.

Inspectors arrived on the scene and quickly determined why the mare was having trouble getting up. The animal had bent legs. At first glance, it was clear that the mare was sick and suffering. According to KTOZ representatives, the owner – the head of the village – bought this horse as a gift for children about a year ago, and once called a doctor or a blacksmith. In addition, she did not provide enough food.

First waste the horse, then it will be wasted
– The head of the village claimed that he bought the horse from a place with bad conditions. He did not want the mare to go to the slaughterhouse because he felt sorry for him. And then, apparently, he didn't have enough money to call a plumber and a doctor. He even said that he plowed the field with it. And he could barely walk, maybe it was a great pain, – KTOZ observer Magdalena Jarzina told us.

The man gave the animal to KTOZ inspectors and they took the mare to a veterinarian. He diagnosed advanced laminitis. What disease is this?
– This is inflammation of the musculoskeletal system. The leg can even fall. Serous and bloody exudates can be seen in the teeth. An animal infected with this disease suffers. It is primarily caused by improper nutrition, explained Lech Pankiewicz, a veterinarian in the Malopolska region in an interview with tvn24.pl.

– There are practically no bones left in the hoof box (foot part – ed.) of this mare. Her condition is incurable and the disease is progressing. It is possible that we will say goodbye to him even within the next year, and he is relatively young, because he is about five years old, – stressed Magdalena Yarzyna. The average lifespan of a horse is five times longer and is about 25 years.
The direct cause of this disease, as Jarzina told us, was probably insufficient food and neglect.
The police are investigating the case
It was also in the property of the baby – The condition of its fibers was also very desirable. Moreover, both horses were not living in a stable, but in… a refrigerated container that was torn from a transporter's truck.

The horses were kept in an old cold storage shed that used to be used by a KTOZ truck
KTOZ representatives called the police officers to the scene, who helped the inspectors to collect the unruly horses. As commissioner Katarzyna Matras, press officer of the Olkus police informed us, the man voluntarily gave up the animals.
“At the moment, inspection work is being conducted at the Olkusz District Police Office in accordance with Article 35(1a) of the Act of August 21, 1997 on the protection of animals,” Matras said. This provision deals with animal abuse. The head of the village can now face up to three years in prison.
More than 30 horses are at the disposal of the Animal Protection Society of Krakow. The horses taken from the village chief now have new names: Brzoskwinka and Belmondo. They can be supported thanks to “virtual adoption” – information about this form of support can be found on the KTOZ website.
