OREGON — As tick activity increases during the warmer months, the Oregon Health Authority (OHA) is urging residents to be vigilant about tick safety. Ticks are common in the spring and summer and can carry and transmit a variety of diseases, so it's important to take precautions.
OHA recommends several key strategies to avoid tick bites. First, using a tick repellent on exposed skin and clothing is very effective. It is also important to check frequently for ticks, especially after spending time in grassy or wooded areas where ticks are commonly found. Wearing light-colored clothing can make it easier to spot ticks before they attach. Additionally, covering as much skin as possible with long sleeves and long pants will provide additional protection against tick bites.
By following these guidelines, residents can significantly reduce their risk of tick-borne illness and more safely enjoy the outdoors this season.
