Compared to conventional tyres you can get up to 50 kilometres more range and save up to 150 euros per year.
Adopted as original equipment by 7 out of 10 luxury car manufacturers. Can be used across all Pirelli product families and seasons.
MILAN, Italy, Aug. 23, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Pirelli has achieved more than 500 approvals for its Electrik tires since their launch in 2019. These tires include a range of technologies that enhance the specific properties of electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. This milestone confirms the company's leadership in the EV segment, with 7 out of 10 premium car manufacturers choosing Pirelli tires developed for BEVs and PHEVs1.
“Electric vehicles are very different to traditional internal combustion engine vehicles and therefore require dedicated tyres. The number of approvals we have received from major manufacturers confirms the relevance of the path we have chosen: offering technology that can adapt to the vehicle, tyre and season,” said Piero Missani, Pirelli's chief technical officer. “Modern development tools such as virtualisation and artificial intelligence allow us to design products that are increasingly adapted to the technical and performance requirements of EVs.”
Drivers using Pirelli Elect tyres enjoy several benefits, starting with the battery range. Thanks to their low rolling resistance, these tyres offer an additional range of up to 50 kilometres2 and save up to 150 euros per year on charging costs3. In addition, Pirelli Elect tyres offer better grip thanks to their innovative compounds, managing the high torque of electric motors and withstanding the weight of EVs thanks to their reinforced structure. These two factors reduce tyre wear by up to 20%4. Elect technology also improves acoustic comfort in the car by up to 20%5, enhancing the feeling of silence due to the absence of an internal combustion engine.
Pirelli Elect technology made its debut in the first generation P Zero for the Porsche Taycan and is now increasingly integrated into Pirelli's core product families. Most popular for sporty models from luxury and prestige car manufacturers, the P Zero family combines high performance with comfort and efficiency required for BEVs and PHEVs. The largest number of sizes feature this technology (more than 30%), followed by the Scorpion series dedicated to SUVs and the Cinturato series dedicated to sedans and CUVs. Pirelli Elect is also increasingly used in winter (22%) and all-season tires (17%), where it offers noise reduction and rolling resistance benefits even in thick-tread tires that offer versatility and safety even in low temperatures.

2. Comparison of PIRELLI SCORPION™ ELECT™ vs. PIRELLI SCORPION™ tyres (size 235/60/R18), measuring the increased battery range due to the reduced rolling resistance of the ELECT™ version. Tests carried out in a Volkswagen iD4 under measured conditions at a constant speed of 50 km/h over a range of 550 km. Source: Pirelli internal R&D tests carried out between March and June 2022.
3. Calculations based on consumption indicators for a VW ID4, taking into account the average costs of fast/standard charging in EU countries in 2023 and an average annual driving distance of 15,000 km. Cost savings may vary depending on driving habits and specific vehicle.
4. Comparison between PIRELLI SCORPION™ ZERO ALL SEASON +3 ELECT™ and PIRELLI SCORPION™ ZERO ALL SEASON +3 tires in size 255/45R20. Source: Texas Test Fleet testing on a Toyota Tacoma, January 2024. Wear rates measured in mm/10,000 km.
5. Comparison between PIRELLI SCORPION™ ELECT™ and PIRELLI SCORPION™ tires in size 255/50R20. Source: Pirelli R&D internal tests carried out on an Audi e-Tron in November 2022. Interior noise was measured at different speeds 40-60-80-110 Km/h and different road surfaces (smooth asphalt/rough asphalt). In all eight combinations (speed/asphalt) the ELECT™ tire had an average perceived interior noise reduction of around -0.6 dB and a maximum of -0.8 dB.
